If you are unsure about what contraception to use after treatment, or if you don’t feel your current contraception is right for you anymore, you can discuss with your GP. The best type of contraception might depend on your cancer type or your medical history.

Unless you want to have children you should always use contraception, it is always important not to assume you are infertile after treatment. It is also important to protect yourself against sexually transmitted diseases by using condoms.

Alternatively, you may choose to go to a sexual health clinic, sexual health clinics are free and available to everyone.

Sexual health clinics offer services including:

  • Tests and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STI’S)
  • Contraception, including emergency contraception
  • Abortion advice
  • Pre and post exposure prophylaxis medicine to protect against HIV
  • Hepatits A and B Vaccinations
  • Human Papilloavirus HPV vaccinations
  • Help after rape or sexual assault
