LGBT+ Online Group

Do you identify somewhere under the LGBT+ umbrella or are questioning your sexuality or gender identity? If so, this LGBT+ group may be for you!!

This is a 3 monthly online group inviting patients who identify as LGBT+ or are curious or unsure about their sexuality or gender identity.

The vision of the group is to:

•  Support and connect LGBT+ patients after cancer treatment
•  Provide a forum to discuss LGBT+ related issues living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis
•  Influence and effect positive change within the NHS, enabling our individual and collective voices to be heard

The group will be led by Laura Cutler (TYA Survivorship CNS) and Dr Avery Summers (TYA Clinical Psychologist)

Each online session will be an hour long and will run on a Thursday lunch time, 12.00 – 13.00.

Emerge Course

Emerge is a 6 monthly rolling online programme presenting a Topic of the Month as has been designed for patients who have completed their treatment.

Each monthly session will run twice in the year, so just choose the date that suits you best.

You don't have to attend every session - just book onto the sessions you are interested in.

An interactive session with TYA Survivorship CNS Laura Cutler exploring your personal values - and using them to set new goals to help create a future that is important to you.

• Coping with my thoughts

An interactive session with Clinical Psychologist Avery Summers exploring what are thoughts and practical strategies to help cope with them as well as an opportunity to share personal experiences with other young people

• Managing my emotional wellbeing

An interactive session with Clinical Psychologist Avery Summers exploring practical tips to help manage your mental health as well as an opportunity to share personal experiences with other young people

• Female fertility and routes to parenthood

An interactive session with Consultant Gynaecologist Sonia Asif discussing topics including: 

- Knowing if my treatment has affected my fertility

- Pregnancy after treatment

- Early Menopause / fertility window

- Alternative routes to parenthood including surrogacy, IVF and adoption – and cost implications

- Managing emotions and talking about infertility concerns to new partners

As well as an opportunity to share personal experiences with other young people

• Male fertility and routes to parenthood

An interactive session with Andrology Lead Karen Pooley discussing topics including:

- Why does cancer and its treatment affect sperm / fertility?

- Can I have a post treatment sperm sample test?

- What can I do if my post treatment sperm sample is poor?

- How do I use my stored sperm? 

 - Alternative routes to parenthood including surrogacy, IVF and adoption – and cost implications

 - Managing emotions and talking about infertility concerns to new partners

As well as an opportunity to share personal experiences with other young people

• Employability and Finances

 - Part 1 - Employability, work and education - An interactive session with a level 6 trained careers advisor - an opportunity for you to explore your personal career path and gain tips and tricks to maximise your employability.

 - Part 2 - Financial Concerns - An opportunity to ask the expert from the Macmillan Money and Work Scheme about your financial concerns, benefits and money advice.

• Fatigue and Nutrition 

 - Part 1 – Managing Fatigue and Exercise - An interactive session with the MOVE charity exploring managing fatigue after treatment and the benefits of moving more.

 - Part 2 – Nutrition, Diet & Weight - Ask the expert dietician all of your nutrition, diet and weight questions and concerns for top tips and guidance.

Each session will be between 60-90 minutes.

The deadline for booking onto each month is the 1st of each month - Reminders will be sent out throughout the year.

Alongside the Guest Speaker each month, all sessions will be hosted by Laura Cutler – TYA Survivorship CNS and supported by another member of the TYA team.
