Hearing

Some cancer treatments, particularly platinum based drugs such as Cisplatin or Carboplatin, radiotherapy or surgery to the brain, head or neck can cause issues with hearing including:

  • Permanent hearing loss
  • Muffled hearing
  • Tinnitus (noises in the ear)
  • Balance issues – vertigo / dizziness

If you feel your hearing has been affected post treatment, please see your GP who can refer you to the appropriate services in audiology or ENT for assessment and intervention.

Sight / Vision

For most people, cancer treatment does not affect their vision or sight. For some people chemotherapy, targeted therapies, steroids surgery or radiotherapy can cause permanent vision changes such as blurry vision, sight loss, dry or sore eyes or sensitivity to light.

Please discuss any changes to your vision with your GP

The NHS recommends having a sight test at least every 2 years to check vision and eye health with a local optician.
